Varsity Coaches           

Brad D'Orazio, Varsity Head Coach

Brad was a 3-year Collegiate Varsity Baseball Letter Winner at Edgewood College and 2-time Lake Michigan Conference Scholar Athlete (2000-01).  Coach D'Orazio holds a BA in Psychology and a Master's Degree in Marriage & Family Therapy from Edgewood College.

 

Brad Crandell, Varsity Asst. Coach

Coach Crandell attended Eau Claire Memorial High School and was a member of the 1999 State Appearance Baseball Team and the Eau Claire Senior Legion program, where he earned most improved player in 2000.  He is also a coach for Verona varsity football, and is involved with the Strength & Conditioning Program.  He is a certified umpire, married to wife Heather, and resides in Verona. He graduated from UW-Madison with a BS in Kinesiology, Certification in Physical Education and Adapted Physical Education and works at Savanna Oaks Middle School in the Special Education department.

 

Alex Shekey, Varsity Asst. Coach

Alex Shekey is a 2002 graduate of Middleton High School.  He graduated from UW-Whitewater in 2010 with a degree in Physical Education.  In high school he was first team All-Conference and second team All-District his senior year.  After graduating high school, Alex played baseball for two seasons at MATC-Madison.  He then coached at Middleton High School for five years before coming to Verona.  His favorite part of coaching is the competition and making a positive influence on the player’s lives.

 

Justin Scanlon, Varsity Asst. Coach

Justin is a 2008 graduate of  Verona High School.  He played college baseball at Madison College for two seasons, where In 2010 he started 54 of 55 games and hit .392 as the Wolfpack advanced to the NJCAA Division II Junior College World Series.  In 2011 he transferred to the Big Ten Conference and played for the Michigan State Spartans for his Junior and Senior seasons.  He started at shortstop in all 57 games in 2011 batting .302, and all 60 games in 2012 earning 2nd team All-Big Ten honors.  He also played for the Madison Mallards in the Northwoods League in the summer of 2011.  Justin is excited to come back to his alma mater and join the Wildcats coaching staff.

 

 

 

 

JV Coaches                  

Erik Massey, Junior Varsity Head Coach

Erik graduated from Monona Grove High School.  He continued his education at Edgewood College where he played baseball as a catcher. He graduated with an elementary education degree and minor in mathematics. Erik is currently a special education assistant at VAHS. He has coached JV football at McFarland and worked with the Varsity team at Verona this past fall. He has also coached JV baseball at Lafollette High School the past two seasons.

 

Miles Mayer, Junior Varsity Asst. Coach

Miles is currently in his last semester at Edgewood College studying chemistry and secondary education. He also student teaches at Verona High School. His playing years consisted of  pitching for 4 years on the Edgewood College baseball team and played 2 years with Erik Massey.  Miles hales from Grafton, Wisconsin where he is also currently Grafton High School's assistant varsity baseball coach for Summer baseball.

 

 

Freshman Coaches            

Steve Welch, Freshman Head Coach

Steve graduated from Oak Creek High School where he played football and baseball.  He continued playing baseball at University of Minnesota-Duluth and University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He received a degree in Physical Education, as well as a teaching certification in Health, Adaptive Physical Education, and Coaching from UW-Whitewater.

His coaching experience consists of positions as Head JV coach at Fort Atkinson, Asst. Varsity Head Coach at Fort Atkinson, and Student Assistant Coach at UW-Whitewater.

Steve  resides in Madison and is full-time teacher.
